Do both partners have to be Swiss?

No — the certificate concerns the Swiss partner (or Swiss resident registered here). Your foreign partner provides the equivalent from their own country; we tell you exactly what the pair should look like for your destination.

How long is it valid?

Swiss law gives the underlying attestation limited shelf life and destination countries impose their own window — commonly 6 months, sometimes 3. Order 2–3 months before the wedding for a comfortable margin.

Registrar asks for "legalisation" — same as apostille?

For Hague Convention countries, yes: the apostille is the legalisation. For the few non-member states, full consular legalisation is needed — we handle that route on quote.
